OFF PISTE SAFETY
You're free!
Move freely, breathe deeply, as soon as you are in the deep snow. But do not forget: you alone carry the responsibility for youself and your actions. You are in the unrestricted, unmarked and unpatrolled areas. You also have an influence on your companions, other skiers and on the nature, in the area which you move.
All Disentis 3000 deep snow decents and the entire area outside of the ski pistes - also the deep snow tracks - are not marked, not controlled and also are not safe against alpine dangers!
Safety tips and notes for Freeriders
- No skiing off piste without the required safety equipment (Avalanche burying detecting devices LVS, shovel, abs balloon, probe). This necessary equipment can be rented, tested or bought in the Sport shops located in the Disentis 3000 cablecar stations.
- Check the avalanche bulletin. It is updated daily and displayed at the following
points:
- The valley cablecar station, S. Catrina 1225m.
- The mountain cablecar station, Caischavedra 1860m.
- The mountain restaurant, Lai Alv 2505m.
- On the Swiss Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF hompage: www.slf.ch
- On steep slopes (over 30°) ski down one at a time.
- Obey the instructions of the piste and emergency services at all times.
Permanent avalanche rescue training field
Practice an avalanche rescue realistically!
Next to the Tipi Nevada there is a permanently laid out Search-field. There you can
practice the use of the avalanche burying detecting devices (LVS) and also get to
know how to use and the feel of the other rescue equipment correctly i.e. an
indication of a probe hit. The use of the training field is free (The LVS equipment is
available, with a deposit, in the Tipi Nevada and the Sport shops).
LVS training, several times during the season, is a mandatory safety precaution for
Freeriding!
Also take note of the following warning if you are planning on going Freeriding outside the normal operating hours:
CLOSED SNOWFIELDS AND PISTES
Outside of the cablecar companies operating times the pistes are closed. There is a
danger from the Piste preparation machines with their steel cables from their winches
extended across the piste or of avalanches.
There is danger of loss of life!
